Objective

Ensure the shower room in the healthcare facility is cleaned and sanitised to the highest standards to prevent infection and maintain a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff.

Scope of Work
  • Remove all rubbish from bins and replace liners.
  • Clean and sanitise all shower surfaces, including walls, floors, and fixtures.
  • Descale shower heads and taps to prevent limescale build-up.
  • Wipe down and sanitise all touchpoints, including door handles and light switches.
  • Ensure drains are free from blockages and clean.
  • Refill soap dispensers and ensure they are functioning correctly.
  • Check and replenish paper towel and toilet paper supplies.
  • Inspect and clean mirrors and glass surfaces.
  • Ensure all cleaning is conducted using colour-coded cleaning systems to prevent cross-contamination.
Method
  1. Prepare the cleaning trolley with all necessary supplies, ensuring colour-coded cloths and mops are used.
  2. Remove rubbish and replace bin liners.
  3. Apply a hospital-grade disinfectant to all shower surfaces and allow appropriate dwell time.
  4. Scrub surfaces with a non-abrasive pad and rinse thoroughly.
  5. Descale shower heads and taps using an appropriate descaling agent.
  6. Wipe down all touchpoints with a disinfectant wipe.
  7. Check and clear drains of any debris.
  8. Refill soap dispensers and check functionality.
  9. Replenish paper towel and toilet paper supplies as needed.
  10. Inspect mirrors and glass surfaces, cleaning with a glass cleaner and microfibre cloth.
  11. Conduct a final inspection to ensure all areas meet quality criteria.

Performance LevelCriteria
ExcellentAll surfaces are visibly clean and sanitised with no residue or streaks. No odours present. All supplies fully stocked. No visible limescale or soap scum. Drains are clear and functioning.
GoodSurfaces are clean with minimal residue. Slight odour may be present but dissipates quickly. Supplies mostly stocked. Minor limescale or soap scum present in non-critical areas.
PassSurfaces are generally clean but may have some visible residue. Odour present but not overpowering. Supplies low but available. Limescale or soap scum visible but not excessive.
FailSurfaces are visibly dirty or unsanitised. Strong odour present. Supplies depleted. Significant limescale or soap scum present. Drains blocked or slow.
Documentation
  • Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
  • Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
  • Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
  • Photos: Before and after photos as requested to document cleaning completion and quality
