Objective
Ensure the shower room in the healthcare facility is cleaned and sanitised to the highest standards to prevent infection and maintain a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff.
Scope of Work
- Remove all rubbish from bins and replace liners.
- Clean and sanitise all shower surfaces, including walls, floors, and fixtures.
- Descale shower heads and taps to prevent limescale build-up.
- Wipe down and sanitise all touchpoints, including door handles and light switches.
- Ensure drains are free from blockages and clean.
- Refill soap dispensers and ensure they are functioning correctly.
- Check and replenish paper towel and toilet paper supplies.
- Inspect and clean mirrors and glass surfaces.
- Ensure all cleaning is conducted using colour-coded cleaning systems to prevent cross-contamination.
Method
- Prepare the cleaning trolley with all necessary supplies, ensuring colour-coded cloths and mops are used.
- Remove rubbish and replace bin liners.
- Apply a hospital-grade disinfectant to all shower surfaces and allow appropriate dwell time.
- Scrub surfaces with a non-abrasive pad and rinse thoroughly.
- Descale shower heads and taps using an appropriate descaling agent.
- Wipe down all touchpoints with a disinfectant wipe.
- Check and clear drains of any debris.
- Refill soap dispensers and check functionality.
- Replenish paper towel and toilet paper supplies as needed.
- Inspect mirrors and glass surfaces, cleaning with a glass cleaner and microfibre cloth.
- Conduct a final inspection to ensure all areas meet quality criteria.

Pass | Surfaces are generally clean but may have some visible residue. Odour present but not overpowering. Supplies low but available. Limescale or soap scum visible but not excessive. |
Fail | Surfaces are visibly dirty or unsanitised. Strong odour present. Supplies depleted. Significant limescale or soap scum present. Drains blocked or slow. |
