Objective

Ensure the sterilisation room in the healthcare facility is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and infection control, adhering to Australian guidelines.

Scope of Work
  • Dust all surfaces including benches, shelves, and equipment.
  • Sanitise all work surfaces and high-touch areas using approved disinfectants.
  • Mop floors with a hospital-grade disinfectant solution.
  • Empty and sanitise rubbish bins.
  • Clean and sanitise sinks and taps.
  • Ensure all cleaning cloths and mops are colour-coded and used appropriately to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Check and refill hand sanitiser dispensers.
Method
  1. Start by donning appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves and masks.
  2. Use a damp microfibre cloth to dust all surfaces, working from high to low to prevent recontamination.
  3. Apply a hospital-grade disinfectant to all surfaces, allowing appropriate contact time as per manufacturer's instructions.
  4. Mop the floor using a two-bucket system to ensure effective cleaning and sanitising.
  5. Empty rubbish bins, replace liners, and sanitise the bin interior and exterior.
  6. Clean sinks and taps with a non-abrasive cleaner, then sanitise with a disinfectant.
  7. Inspect and refill hand sanitiser dispensers as needed.
  8. Remove PPE and dispose of it safely, then wash hands thoroughly.

GoodSurfaces are mostly clean with minor dust in low-traffic areas. No strong odours. Floors are clean with minimal streaks. High-touch areas are sanitised. Bins are empty but may have minor residue. Hand sanitiser dispensers are mostly full.
PassSurfaces have some dust and minor stains. Mild odours may be present. Floors are clean but may have visible streaks. High-touch areas are mostly sanitised. Bins are emptied but not sanitised. Hand sanitiser dispensers are partially full.
FailSurfaces are visibly dusty and stained. Strong odours present. Floors are dirty or sticky. High-touch areas are not sanitised. Bins are full or not sanitised. Hand sanitiser dispensers are empty.
