Objective
Ensure the walking paths in the aged care facility are clean, safe, and hygienic for residents and staff.
Scope of Work
- Remove all visible debris and litter from walking paths.
- Dust and wipe down all handrails and adjacent surfaces.
- Sanitize high-touch areas such as handrails and door handles.
- Vacuum any carpeted sections of the walking paths.
- Mop hard surface areas with a disinfectant solution.
- Ensure all cleaning activities are conducted in a manner that minimizes disruption to residents.
Method
- Begin by collecting all visible debris and litter using appropriate waste disposal methods.
- Use a microfiber cloth to dust and wipe down handrails and adjacent surfaces.
- Apply a hospital-grade disinfectant to high-touch areas and allow appropriate dwell time before wiping clean.
- Vacuum carpeted sections using a HEPA-filter vacuum cleaner to ensure dust and allergens are minimized.
- Mop hard surfaces with a disinfectant solution, ensuring even coverage and allowing surfaces to air dry.
- Conduct a final inspection to ensure all areas meet cleanliness standards.

Quality Criteria
Excellent | All surfaces visibly clean, no dust, stains, or debris. Pleasant appearance with no odors. All cleaning tasks completed to highest standard. |
Good | Most surfaces clean with minimal dust or minor marks. Generally tidy appearance. All major cleaning tasks completed satisfactorily. |
Pass | Basic cleaning completed, surfaces generally clean but may have some minor dust or marks. Acceptable standard for routine operations. |
Fail | Visible dirt, stains, or debris present. Unacceptable odors or untidy appearance. Cleaning tasks incomplete or inadequate. Requires immediate re-cleaning. |
Documentation
- Cleaning Checklist: Digital or paper checklist to verify completion of all cleaning tasks
- Incident Reports: Documentation of any cleaning-related incidents, spills, or issues encountered
- Maintenance Records: Record any maintenance needs identified during cleaning (for reporting to maintenance team)
- Photos: Before and after photos as requested to document cleaning completion and quality
