Objective

Ensure the palliative care room in the aged care facility is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene, adhering to Australian cleaning standards and infection control guidelines.

Scope of Work
  • Dust all horizontal surfaces including furniture, window sills, and ledges.
  • Sanitise all high-touch surfaces such as door handles, light switches, and bed rails.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas and mop hard floors using a colour-coded system to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Empty rubbish bins and replace liners, ensuring waste is disposed of according to facility protocols.
  • Clean and sanitise the ensuite toilet and bathroom facilities, including taps, basins, and shower areas.
  • Ensure all cleaning activities comply with infection control standards as per Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare.
Method
  1. Prepare the cleaning trolley with appropriate colour-coded cloths and mops.
  2. Begin by dusting all surfaces using a microfibre cloth to capture dust and allergens.
  3. Sanitise high-touch areas with a hospital-grade disinfectant, ensuring contact time as per product instructions.
  4. Vacuum carpets using a HEPA-filtered vacuum cleaner to minimise airborne particles.
  5. Mop hard floors with a neutral detergent, followed by a disinfectant solution.
  6. Clean the ensuite bathroom, starting with the least contaminated areas (e.g., taps) and finishing with the toilet.
  7. Dispose of waste in accordance with facility waste management protocols.

FailSurfaces are visibly dusty or stained. Strong odours present. High-touch areas are not sanitised. Floors are dirty or wet. Waste bins are full or dirty.
